It is nobody's fault: it is how growing up bilingual works. School, friends and screens all speak the dominant language, and any language that is not "needed" outside home starts losing ground. In many French-speaking families abroad, the second generation speaks French only with grandparents. At first they answer with a «oui» or a «bonjour». Over time, French becomes passive. They understand it, but they don't speak it. Our heritage groups, part of our online French classes for kids, exist for exactly this moment.
Up to 44% of bilingual children end up losing their parents' language. The good news: with regular, fun practice alongside other kids like them, your child stays in the 56% that keeps it for life.
A heritage speaker is not a beginner, and not a child schooled in French either. In a beginner class they get bored repeating colours and numbers they have understood since they were two. In a class for kids schooled in France they feel exposed and shut down. What they need is a group at their real level, where speaking French feels safe, useful and, above all, fun.
From "understands but won't speak" to kids who already chat and want more vocabulary: each child lands where they will thrive. Max 6 per class (4 in beginner and ages 4–6 groups).
Games, missions and projects where speaking French is the natural thing to do. Our teachers are trained not to over-correct, so nobody freezes. Confidence first; accuracy follows.
Classmates in 50+ countries growing up bilingual too. Seeing other kids like them speak French changes everything.

Pen pals, events and home activities so French becomes part of their week, not a 30-minute island.
Speaking is only half of keeping a language. As children move up the levels, reading and writing in French come into the group classes: many families join us for exactly that.
FLAM (Français LAngue Maternelle) supports associations that help French children abroad keep their language. If there is no FLAM association near you, or the timetables don't fit, our online groups pursue the same goal from home: keeping French alive, with children at the same level. "I'm French and I've lived 18 years in Croatia; I have 2 children with my Croatian spouse. My children could speak French very well but didn't know how to read and write. I recommend Diluu: after a year of just 30 min a week, my children now know how to read in French."

"Diluu's courses are perfect for children you want to raise in a bilingual environment. We've been attending their French classes for over a year and our son has made remarkable progress. Thank you, Diluu!"

"Very satisfied with these online French lessons! My daughter loves her sessions and has gained a lot of confidence speaking French. What pleasantly surprised me was the regular follow-up with parents to keep me informed of her progress."

"This is a great platform. My daughter is taking the French classes with Miss Anne and she's improving big time. Recently she moved up to the next level, and she's up to the challenge. I would 100% recommend this platform if you want your kid to learn a second or third language."

"We've had a great experience with Diluu for our children. The French lessons are engaging, well-structured, and adapted to each child's level. A special thank you to Morgane, an outstanding teacher: warm, encouraging, and truly great with kids."

"We couldn't recommend them more. The teachers are amazing and go above and beyond. My children learnt Spanish before with Lucila, and we're now learning French with Morgane, who is incredible. The progress showed from day one!"

Absolutely. This is a very common situation among French-speaking families living abroad. In our classes children expand their vocabulary and take part in activities designed to help them build increasingly complete and fluent sentences, so they gain the confidence to express themselves in French.
A heritage speaker is a child who grows up with a language at home (like French) that is different from the dominant language of their country. They usually understand the home language well, but often feel more comfortable speaking the language of school and friends.
No. We group children by age and by level, so a child who already understands French joins a group where they are challenged and can activate the language, instead of repeating colours and numbers they have known since they were two.
Yes. Alongside the groups for children who already understand French, we run beginner groups that start from scratch, with a maximum of 4 children per class. Those classes are full immersion with visual support (Total Physical Response method), so your child understands everything from day one.
Our group classes have a maximum of 6 children. In beginner groups and groups for ages 4 to 6 the maximum is 4 children, so every child gets plenty of speaking time in every single class.
Yes. Reading and writing are part of the French group classes as children move up the levels, so a child who speaks French at home also learns to read it and write it. Families who joined us for exactly this reason tell us their children were reading in French after a year of one 30-minute class a week.
