Between 4 and 6, twelve months change everything. This is what a class looks like at each age, and what your child takes home from it.

French classes for 4 year olds
At four, the class is pure oral play built on Total Physical Response: children move, point and repeat while the teacher acts out every word with puppets, objects and pictures. They meet the first sounds of French inside games and songs, and nothing is ever read or written: everything happens by listening and speaking. If an adult stays nearby during the first sessions, perfect.
With a maximum of 4 children per group, everyone gets their turn several times in every class. At this age French does not feel like a school subject: it sounds like a game they want to come back to.

French classes for 5 year olds
At five, routines and repetition make things click. The same songs and rituals come back every week and, suddenly, colours, animals and the family show up in the stories children help tell. They start answering short questions on their own, «Oui !», «C'est bleu !», and every answer gets celebrated.
Attention has grown too, so mini games with turns work beautifully: waiting, listening to a classmate, then jumping in. The group is still 4 children at most, so nobody stays quiet for long.

French classes for 6 year olds
At six, school habits start helping: children know how to listen, wait for their turn and follow instructions, and the class takes advantage of all of it. They answer with short complete sentences, sing whole songs from memory and even start correcting themselves mid-sentence, which is a big deal.
This year works as a bridge to the dynamic of the 7 to 9 group, with slightly longer exchanges and small roles to play, while they stay in groups of maximum 4 children.
